Charles J. Shanley, M.D., F.A.C.S., D.F.S.V.S; Professor of Surgery, Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine
Dr. Shanley is a distinguished fellow of the Society for Vascular Surgery and Health Policy and Management Scholar of the American College of Surgeons. His research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center, and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. Dr. Shanley served for over 10 years on the Health Care Patient Safety and Quality Study Section at the Department of Health & Human Services Agency for Health Care Research and Quality as well the Circulatory Devices Advisory Panel of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. He has over 100 publications, book chapters, funded grants and patents a well as numerous national and international invited presentations.
Throughout his career, Dr Shanley has served in a variety of clinical and academic leadership roles including residency program director, for both general surgery (William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak) and vascular surgery (Detroit Medical Center); division chief, vascular surgery (Detroit Medical Center); and department chair, surgical services (William Beaumont, Royal Oak). Dr. Shanley has also served in a variety of executive roles including president & chief executive officer, Wayne State University Physician Group; vice dean, clinical affairs, Wayne State University School of Medicine; senior vice president, professional services, Beaumont Health; senior vice president, surgical services, William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak. Dr. Shanley is past president of the Detroit Surgical Association and the Michigan Vascular Society.
